SigmundsdoÌttir, Alda. Icelandic Folk Legends: Tales of Apparitions, Outlaws and Things
Unseen. Little Books, 2016.

Although this book didn’t have too many historical facts it leads me to think about the importance
of Icelandic Folktales to the Icelandic people. It is a good read and provided me with stories that
will be helpful to ask about in my interviews with locals and professors at the University of
Iceland. Books like these will be an amazing addition to my camping experience as I plan on
staying over at some of the places mention.

SigmundsdoÌttir, Alda. The Little Book of the Hidden People. Enska Textasmidjan, 2015.

This is a collection of Icelandic folk legends. While in Iceland after hearing from
Kristinn Johannsson I decided to get books that focused on Icelandic folk tales. These two books are not only great fun read but also gave me insight to where in Iceland these stories take place historical context around the geological landscape. In the “ Tales of Apparitions, Outlaws, and Things Unseen,” author Alda Sigmundsdottir draws on several personal accounts about her travels in Iceland. Through these stories we learn a lot about Icelandic traditions. Alda Sigmundsdottir also breaks down Icelandic words like bo∂stofa (bathroom) and will give a brief history lecture about how the word has come to be. These two books were a great look into
Icelandic folk tales.
