Magellan Project

The Magellan project is a program designed by the Washington & Jefferson College staff as a way of getting students out of there comfort zone while also learning about a topic of choice regardless of major. The process starts off with several weeks of planning as you hone in on the perfect topic for you. After you have narrowed down your search and it has been approved by an advisor it is time to come up with your proposal. This is when things get tricky. The proposal must be seamless; dates, contacts, expenses and the research you have already done on the topic. Once you come up with your proposal and budget it is time to send it in. Nerve-racking, however, if you put the time and effort in its worth it. Students are allowed to pick different lengths of time that they would be conducting their studies over. The minimum is three weeks. (In my opinion, this is to allow you to become fully acclimated and involved in the places you choose to do research) And the maximum is three months. Once accepted the college will grant you with what they believe is an appropriate amount of money depending on your budget.
